Jumping for joy now that we’ve signed our build contract with our new GC, Rustic Mountain Builders!! We literally hit the jackpot as they are VA approved, already approved by our bank and specialize in off-grid mountain homes!!! 🎊🌟🎉🎊🌟🎉

This month we are working on foundation engineering, septic engineering, solar engineering, basement re-engineering and finalizing our well permit and site plan!! It’s been a long 16 months to get to this point but by the end of this we will know the final cost to build our dream Aframe cabin and are on track to close in January!! 🎉🌟🎉🙏🏻

We ended up scaling our partnership with Avrame way back and going more on the custom home route. Turns out, sourcing almost everything from local vendors will save us more than purchasing through the kit (up to 50% in some areas), which at this stage in our build, saving money for the same materials is key!! And with doing a winter build, we want very little materials sitting outside too.

Learning how to build a home on raw, remote, mountain land has been the biggest challenge of our lives. We’ve been brought to our knees, sacrificed so much, cried so many tears of surrender, frustration and joy—but challenges force you to rise to the occasion at the same time. We’ve all grown so much, changed our levels of belief and been forced wayyyyy outside our comfort zones but doing so has helped bring us closer to who we want to be—which is self-sufficient off-grid homesteaders!! 🎉🙏🏻

Knowing our build pack will be done in 3-4 weeks gives us so much hope and encouragement that this obstacle course race will soon transition into something new. New challenges in building in the snow. New financial shifts in working with a bank instead of out of pocket. And new growth in literally rolling up our sleeves and building as much as we possibly can to get this project done as fast as we possibly can! So excited for this huge win!!
