January 22nd, 2020 – Life on 200 Gallons of Water per Month

100 gallon water delivery happening tomorrow…so yes, I used the water ration dedicated for dishes to shave my legs instead #bestchoice #offgrid #noregrets đŸ˜‚

And yes, we have adjusted to living on 200 gallons of water a month as a family since everything froze in December. The average family of 4 uses 13,200 gallons of water a month!!! đŸ˜± It’s truly amazing all you get “used to” when you live off grid. But I draw the line at wooly mammoth status—I just can’t do hairy legs even off grid đŸȘ’ . #worthit đŸ’Ż

Anyone else??? I remind my husband a few times a day (for 7 years now) that the one non-holistic thing I want to do is laser hair removal. Because I just can’t do hairy legs đŸ™…đŸ»â€â™€ïž

  • Alicia K Hardimon Electric shaver best investment ever they even have USB ones. 👏👏
  • Rachel Caminita Literally in the process of trying to figure out how we can go off grid, within budget, and still meet our basic needs. Water/plumbing is the biggest but this post inspires me more that we can do it!
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Rachel Caminita it’s an adjustment but so doable!! If you off grid in a house or cabin, this probably won’t happen or as often. In an RV it’s pretty common even when you do all the “right things” like skirt, insulate lines, bury lines, leave the drip o

    • Rachel Caminita Rachel McCash Cronin I think it’ll be easier on me but my husband hasn’t come around to the idea of being more mindful of environmental impacts like using so much water! We’re looking into earthbag, adobe, and earthship homes. I started with the tiny home and RV and I WANT to do it so we can travel! My family has one buuuuuut I was told they have over 18k left to pay. Haven’t spoken to my husband about that because it would need major renovations and I’m not sure if it’d be worth it price wise? What do you think about that since living in one? Not sure how much money too expect to renovate.Â đŸ˜«Â your rv lets you take baths?? 😍😍😍 if I could renovate the bathroom to have a tub that’d be perfect!!
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Rachel Caminita yes we have a bathtub and shower in our RV!! It’s tiny, but even my 6’6” husband can make it work haha. We spent $4k renovating our RV going to the habitat for humanity restore—it’s like a thrift store for lumber + household build items like cabinets, paint, lights, doors, etc. We scored and got our RV for free!! It had some black mold and we had to gut it and start over
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Rachel Caminita wow!!! That RV skirt is soooo pro!! We are actually considering buying a new RV and a professional skirt. Since our timeline is extending, more space is on the menu!! Love that resource you shared!
    • Rachel Caminita Rachel McCash Cronin 4K and a tub 😍 that’s amazing!
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Rachel Caminita yessss
    • Rachel Caminita Rachel McCash Cronin I’m 5’9 and I love baths so I’d love to figure out how to make a higher tub area. It may not be possible but it’s a thought. All standard tubs I don’t fitÂ đŸ€Ł
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Rachel Caminita ah yes… this tub is truly tiny hahaha. We plan on putting an 8ft tub in our cabin though!!
    • Nicole Guevara Rachel McCash Cronin girl you got an rv for free… tell me more about this
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Nicole Guevara it was very much luck!! My hubby’s grandpa gave it to us! Needed repairs, but we were super grateful and excited to use it for fun adventures. We never thought about living in it at all. Until I think a year later we found our land and the ideas started flooding in…. and we sold our house to buy our land, renovated the RV and moved in!
  • Jessica Kish We used like 5900 last month and I wondered on what.
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Jessica Kish that’s really good though!! Toilets use a lot of water!! And dishes. And laundry. It all adds up so fast!
    • Jessica Kish I hate paying for water. We are looking at moving into the country.
  • Deborah Trem Williams I LOVE IT 💖
  • Elisabeth Phelps Rogers I did laser on my underarms. Worth. Every. Penny 😍😍😍 i want to have my entire body done from the eyelashes downđŸ€Ł
  • Adrianne Reyes Sugar wax♄
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Adrianne Reyes I’ll have to try this!! I tried waxing a loonnngg time ago (before kids) and couldn’t do it. Now I’m post 2 natural births, I bet I can! 😂
  • Jai Macklin 200 gallons?! That’s inspiring!
  • Donna Beauchamp Too funny! Hairy legs I don’t mind! Hairy armpits I can’t stand!
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Donna Beauchamp oh me too! I use an epilator for that area cause I can’t do stumble there. Lasts 3-4 days with how fast my hair grows…Â đŸ€”đŸ˜©Â But 3-4 days is longer than 6 hours that shaving does so yay!!
    • Rachel McCash Cronin I totally get “5 o’clock shadow” with shaving my legs in the morning. My hair grows SO FAST 😳😅đŸȘ’. In suburbia, I was the shave twice a day in the summer to stay hair-free. It’s bad!! 😳
    • Donna Beauchamp Rachel McCash Cronin wow! I shave my pits every day and it does grow fast. My legs maybe every 4-5 days because I don’t really care about it! Twice a day no thanks!
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Donna Beauchamp yes!! It’s bad. Every time I shave I feel my body aborts all to dedicate resources towards regrowing the hair as fast as possible hahaha
    • Donna Beauchamp Rachel McCash Cronin it probably does!
