Itβs not much, but itβs EVERYTHING This is our off-grid life Yesterday, was a huge day at Cronin Mountain . Yesterday, we partnered with Sun Solar Backup Systems Inc. and invested in our official off-grid solar set up. (Stay tuned for the YouTube video soon + check out my story ASAP or IG story highlight !) Weβve experimented with solar somewhat over the years but never went all in, until now.If you are new to following us, 2 years ago, we sold our gorgeous suburban home and bought 35 acres of incredible off-grid mountain property in the Colorado wild. For the past 2 years, we have been figuring out, as a family of 4, how to not only adjust to living ultra tiny in our RV (3,000 sq/ft to 120 sq/ft) but also adjust to life off the grid (no power, no water, no sewer, no septic, no RV hookups) while simultaneously learning how to design + build a new home from scratch in an area thatβs never been built before. We hoped our RV life would last 6 months to a year, (I mean, how hard could it be to build where no one has ever built at 7,777 ft off the grid in the mountains? ) And quickly realized our temporary set up would need major improvements and upgrades in order to survive + thrive when delay after delay started to set in with our cabin construction. We started with getting a back up generator, switching to propane generators, upgrading from 100 lb tanks to a 1,000 gallon tank and now SOLAR POWER. Our sewer set up also changed from needing to haul black water in a transport tank to RV dumps to a COMPOST TOILET . And our water changed as well from refilling our small RV tank to building our own DIY CISTERN that is now buried to prevent freezing . And we canβt wait for our official well to be installed September 23-24th of this year too! We even added shipping containers to store our household boxes + furniture on our land, shop in bulk at Costco and even built a greenhouse too. Itβs crazy to think of how far weβve come, but honestly, when I look at these pictures, Iβm blown away. We are doing it!! We are living off-grid and LOVING it!! We have everything we need right here. I canβt tell you how empowering it is to have endless electricity in the works, food growing in our greenhouse, fire in our stove, a Pinterest worthy interior shelter (gotta get the outside photogenic too one day haha) and water in a big tank with so many back ups in place to be prepared for ANYTHING. The world has become so crazy lately. When we look out at the city from afar, we feel grateful that literally if we woke up and the world was in even more chaos, we would still have power, water, food, shelter and security. It is NOT easy, I will never be the one to tell you going off grid is easy when you need to create it all on your own from scratch. Itβs taken us 2 years of trial and error to get to this point. But itβs SO WORTH IT!! Thank you Sun Solar for this incredible off-grid upgrade!! We were SO ready and already enjoying our silent system so much!
