3 years ago, we bought off grid property and moved into the Colorado wild prepared to learn everything about building a house from scratch. Who knew our vision would expand to include so much more? My heart is so full today. So excited to share updates on the next stages of our property development coming soon! Also—it’s almost climbing + hiking season!! Who has been so ready to get back into nature after this long winter? Which rock formation stands out to you the most to climb or hike first?

- Jenna Ashley QHeyyy! What kind of trailer do you have? I’m in the market?!
- Rachel McCash CroninJenna Ashley Q we have a 2006 Kodiak Scamper that we remodeled from the ground up. I would recommend other models though—unless you are interested in remodeling lol. The Sportsmen brand has really incredible layouts with sliding glass doors. Those are the ones we have our eyes on!

- Alexandra KoganWe’ll come climbing!
- Rachel McCash CroninAlexandra Kogan yay!!! Love to have you all out!!
- Diana Grover LarsenYou made it through winter!!!
- Rachel McCash CroninDiana Grover Larsen haha yes!! Snow will still come here and there until May, but the worst is over!!
- Theresa Mae WoodAbsolutely gorgeous! Where do you live?
- Theresa Mae WoodNevermind… I see Colorado do you share what area you live in?
- Rachel McCash CroninTheresa Mae Wood haha no worries! Yes we are in the mountains of Colorado Springs in Colorado.
- Theresa Mae WoodRachel McCash Cronin wow, so beautiful! I hope the kids enjoy getting to experience that! Looks like a fun place to explore as a kid and as a grown up!
- Rachel McCash CroninTheresa Mae Wood yes!! We are so happy and grateful to raise them out here. Not easy—we are literally building everything from scratch. But the end result will be worth it!
- Theresa Mae WoodRachel McCash Cronin totally worth it all! I love it
- Alissa DabasinskasI’d love to know your favorite hiking or tennis shoes to wear!
- Rachel McCash CroninAlissa Dabasinskas I climbed pikes peak and our property in Oboz! They are amazing. Only downsize is they are a little heavy—which gets to you after several miles or if doing a 2 day or longer hike. I recently got some North face winter hiking boots and love them!! I’m going to order another pair for the sumner. They are much lighter and the traction is still great. I basically look for: waterproof, mid or high top, great traction on rocks (most outdoor shoe stores have an artificial rock you can practice on) and not too heavy.
- ActiveRachel McCash CroninAlso—for short hikes—Chacos are good too. However Chacos have the worse treads out of the list I gave you lol. But they would be good for easy places like Garden of the Gods or 7 falls. I would never do a “real” hike in them. I’d use North Face or Oboz
- Rachel McCash CroninMy kids love Keen and Merril! Those are also great! They have lots of adult versions. I’ve noticed Merril’s wear out the fastest. But they are great on tread, weight and waterproofing. Also my kids are rough on shoes—so it might just be that hahaha
