Mountain Kitty đđŒ
đ» Loves going on hikes + walks with us
đ» Alerts us to danger
đ» Greets us when we come home
đ» Always happy to see us
đ» Amazing with the kids
đ» Loves rock climbing with us
đ» Always comes when we call him
đ» Catches the mice + protects from invaders
đ» Rarely uses a litter box because he goes to the door when he needs to go out
đ» Burries his đ© so nothing to clean up outside
đ» Sleeps at the foot of our bed
đ» Extremely low maintenance âheâs fine on his own when we travel
đ» He is self-cleaning and bathes himself
đ» He required zero training
đ» He is only 20 pounds and fits in our tiny RV
đ Organic + non gmo cat food is $20 a month / super affordable
And yet… my husband wants to get a dog đ¶ â đđ€ đ±
Correct me if Iâm wrong but….
đ¶ Dogs are not self-cleaning
đ¶ Dogs canât be left alone for a week or so if we go on a trip
đ¶ Dogs require lots of training
đ¶ Dogs do not bury their đ©
đ¶ Organic dog food is đ°
đ¶ Dogs get too excited/might jump on you or knock over the kids without rigorous training
đ¶ Dogs tend to chase/attack smaller animals like cats, unless againâ-hours of training
đ¶ Dogs run away when they âget outâ/ wonât stay close naturally unless you provide rigorous training….
đ¶ ETC.
And…
đ» Our cat is basically a dog but without the downside stuff đ€·đ»ââïž
Someone needs to help me explain to my hubs there is nothing a dog can do that our cat doesnât already do and we live in 120 sq/ft and itâs not the right time to get a dog đŻ đ€Șđ MAYBE after we have a houseâbut MAYBE…. #help #lessismore #nodogsintheRV #wealreadytriedgettingdogslastyear #theykeptrunningaway #notagain
Comments:
- Shannon Warren Cats all the way. My kitties are just like your mountain kitty. My main kitty Detective Mittens goes for hikes with me and my dog on my 40 acre farm đ
- Brenda Upright CAT!! đșđșđșYou are lucky to have a cool cat/dog. You donât need a dog right now. I agree with you!
- Rachel McCash Cronin Brenda Upright yes!! He is trying to tell me the dog will stay outside. It reaches 0 degrees at night in the winter. Thereâs no way a dog can stay outside when itâs that cold. I think a homestead dog makes senseâAFTER our house is builtânot now haha. No place for a dog in our tiny camp haha
- Rebecca Bordeaux What kind of cat is he?
- Rachel McCash Cronin Rebecca Bordeaux we think he might be a black smoke maine coon or mix. We adopted him from a feral cat colony and honestly canât believe for a minute he was ever feralâhe is đŻÂ domesticated. All we know is from his colony microchip . He was returned to his colony several times but kept showing up at our realtors houseâwhich he didnât need a cat. So he brought him to us because at the time we had chickens and needed a barn cat and the rest is history! But thatâs why his left ear is cutâthey cut the left ear of colony cats to signal they have been neutered, vaccinated + microchipped.
- Rebecca Bordeaux Heâs cool lookin
- Whitney Hirata A husky would be fine outside in that weather, they love it, actually. However, they have a ton of energy and will destroy things if theyâre not exercised.
- Rachel McCash Cronin Whitney Hengst yes he wants some sort of Alaskan sled dog or something đ€·đ»ââïž. He saw some while in Alaska that live outside in very cold and harsh conditions and was inspired. Just knowing us, that dog will be on our bed when itâs 0 degrees out hahaÂ
- Jenna BeardĂ©Â I have 10 dogs and a husky in my opinion is the absolute hardest to train! In my experience they are terrible with chickens, cats, running away, and just super high maintenance…. I would recommend a great Great Pyrenees or Anatolian or even a mix of the two.
- Rachel McCash Cronin Jenna Beardé oh wow really good to know!!
- Jenna BeardĂ©Â Rachel McCash Cronin I know tons of people who absolutely love their huskies…. so just my two cents but I foster for a lot of rescues and have encountered quite a few and typically they come in because they are very hard to contain, they are bred to run….
- Whitney Hirata Huskies are beautiful, their one of my favorite breeds. They are a ton of work though. Theyâre working dogs do they have to run! They will try to escape too.
- Elisabeth Phelps Rogers Loooove my Maine coone mutt! I always say he’s a dog in a cat suit
- Active NowJennifer Parke Thatâs a cool cat!
- September Exline I agree with you on most besides one thing.
Most dogs donât chase cats and if you get a puppy it will not require training to not chase the cat at all. - Amanda Stiles When I was a kid I had a cat who walked me to my bus stop in the morning and met me there when I got off. He joined me for walks and played hide and seek with me. I even taught him to sit on command.
- Mindy Burnette Your cat is totally awesome!!! And beautiful!!! Yea dogs are a lot of work, I have a dog and now have a cat. I’m like wow, this chic is easy, just feed her and scoop her poop. đ€Łđ€Ł
- Rachel McCash Cronin Mindy Burnette haha itâs so true!!! đ»đ»đ»
- Katie Maj Best kitty evah!!! âŁïž
- Jessica Kish I’m definitely a cat person. Getting a dog is on the list for our farm. But I would rather just have the barn cats. No inside the house for us.
- Handlebar Henry Get a Samoyed..but make sure that you have the time to take care of it.
- Handlebar Henry One word of warning about the Samoyed breed..they will steal your heart. You will fall in love with them and they won’t live forever. Just wanted you to think about this. The Samoyed HAVE TO BE AROUND PEOPLE. Boss watching tv. Samoyeds aren’t known for being smart but this particular one was extremely intelligent. He would actually watch Beethoven and wait THROUGH the commercials..his attention span was incredible.
- Summer Estella Lajoie Would your mountain kitty be interested in a free photography session to promote children’s books? You would receive a package of books for exchange of his time. Diana ER can tell you about her experience with her precious dragon. PM if you are interested and for details đ
- Rachel McCash Cronin Summer Estella Lajoie oh for sure!!!!
- Rachel McCash Cronin Summer Estella Lajoie would need to be on our property if possibleâ he hates traveling. He literally drools nonstop + just absolutely freaks out in cars đ
- Summer Estella Lajoie Rachel McCash Cronin oh yes, I would be coming to you… I will PM you
- Mario J McCash Rachel, promise me you will listen to the Judy Collins song âMountain Girlâ
Itâs about a women in her thirties who leaves NYC and moves to Colorado and adopts a big black cat let on her new property. âŠSee More- Haley Nord When you get a dog, you are making a commitment to it for the duration of its life, good or bad. I think there are some breeds that would be well suited for your living, but I would do extensive research first, and consider being a foster family for a rescue first so you can see if a dog is a good fit for your family. Itâs not something to take lightly (which I know youâre not!) but the breeds you mentioned are VERY serious breeds and require owners who are willing to put in a ton of training both for the dog and themselves as owners. If you do end up considering one, I think a Great Pyrenees would be an excellent fit for the safety of your land and property, but they are a working dog, not a pet.
