Moving 42 times growing up helped prepare me to be a successful military wife. Having my husband get the “travel job” and be gone 6 months of the year for 4 years helped prepare me to be self-sufficient, tough, resilient and independent. Being all those things helped prepare me with the grit and tenacity to sell everything, move into 120 sq/ft on 35 acres and live 100% off-grid and build my dream cabin from scratch. Now—I look at this stage of my life and wonder what this is preparing me for and what my next step of evolution will be. Challenges are always training you for who you are meant to become. And I think its pretty cool to look back and see how everything has unfolded and is unfolding exactly in the best way for me to grow and progress over the years. Do you ever notice this in your own life? How even in moments you may think are “dark” or “trying” or “suck” are actually GIFTS to rocket you as fast as possible to what you want? It’s amazing. I’m honestly lost in awe over it all ✨💗✨💗✨

  • Jessica Kish Where did you have luck selling stuff? Minimizing here and haven’t had much luck.
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Jessica Kish Facebook marketplace lol and I did eBay as well. I made over $2k one month from selling stuff I didn’t need on eBay. But bigger stuff like couches, furniture, etc I sold on FB marketplace
    • Dawn Strate Jessica Kish It took me two moves and 3 years to minimize. It’s not an overnight deal unless you have a mover come get everything and anything they can. 😅
    • Jessica Kish Dawn Strate we moved a few weeks back and did minimize some in the move. I have some stuff I have been trying to sell forever. New stuff for cheap. I donated a bunch of stuff the other day as well.
  • Handlebar Henry Part of success ..in my opinion..is to view the hard times as a possibility of something better. For example..Hurricane Katrina..We lost everything except the most important things..We survived and so did our dogs (our family). We prepared well and end…See More
    • Handlebar Henry Jane and I were both living “on the beach” before Hurricane Camille. She lived on the west side and I lived on the east side. In her case..they lost not only their own home but two others. So she started high school with no house, clothes..anything. It is a couple of feet lower over there..and the Hurricane was closer as well. In my case, everything was gone on the first floor..all washed out into the gulf and other places. I always wondered what happened to our piano..it was extremely heavy..would take four men to move it (actually..6 would have been better). Anyway..I did find the piano bench about 2 1/2 blocks away..not where I would have imagined it. The really strange thing is..while everything was gone downstairs..as you went up to the second floor..EVERYTHING was exactly the same as we’d left it..with one small exception. The curtains on the opposite side (west) in one room had some water on it. I think that the water might have blown through the small spaces where the windows were..the winds were over 200mph. Anyway..we lived upstairs and my dad got a guy from where we had lived before to come and repair the bottom part of the house. He lived down below..it made it easy for him to start work each day. By Christmas Eve all was back to normal..more or less. My father would put old brick on the house outside..he bought this huge amount of bricks from a building downtown..I think it might have been one of the railroad buildings..but not sure. Anyway..the house ended up looking amazing..and all along the coast people must have been inspired by it because others did the same. In fact..my father designed this really, really nice brick and wood fence later on..and others copied it as well (he was an engineer). The reason why all of the explanation..this was a horrible thing to go through..but it did give us a little advantage in Hurricane Katrina that many didn’t have. I upped our insurance coverage 30% above what was full coverage back then three months before the storm hit. As it cost a lot more AFTER a storm ..well..you get the idea..it worked out very well..and these were tax free proceeds. But it still was a nightmare..no one can really explain how immense Katrina was..the damage. Camille was more powerful ..wind wise..by quite a bit..it was a compact event but Katrina was more of a water even..and it did far more damage than Camille. Water can really ruin your day. Anyway..I knew what would have be done when I surveyed our neighborhood..which had vanished from the face of the earth..I was standing on top of the “debris pile”. As I was a little over 50..it wasn’t something that I really had planned on..I did understand this was going to be even more difficult than Camille..and that was awful. I’ll close for now..we did make it out ok..I had to fight like a mad dog..and use all of my wits to make others come around to my point of view..even had to go to court to force the issue. Btw, I’ve won every time I have had to go to court..more than most but always for a good cause..never something frivolous. We made our point..and I am very proud of winning all of the battles. Not easy..but The Handlebar ..we’ll you can count on him to win.
