Anyone have a multi-purpose barn? At first we were thinking having llama stables and a separate coop for chickens. But now I’m definitely leaning towards an all-in-one barn for everyone. Pros and cons? 👇🏼

Comments:

  • Kimberley Craig if you have very cold winters where you are the shared barn will have more humidity with the alpaca room mates. I work as a hand on my neighbors hobby farm and they have a barn shared by goats, alpaca and chickens. With proper ventilation it’s very doable.
  • Amanda Stiles Poultry create a lot of dust that can cause respritory issues in your other animals.
    • Taylor Stokes this!!!
    • Active NowMelody Coleman Yep.
    • Rachel McCash Cronin Amanda Stiles ah very good to be aware of!! Maybe I can build the coop on the side of the barn, so it’s separate but still in the same area… 🤔 Or maybe I’ll just make it completely separate hmmmm 🤔🤔🤔
    • Active NowMelody Coleman Also, you may never have this problem, but not all larger livestock like chickens. My son has a shetlan that will chase down dogs and chicken and kick them.

Just something else to consider, as if you dont have enough lol

    • Rachel McCash Cronin Steven Dale amazing!! We are definitely wanting pack llamas. We have plans for them to help with trail making, be part of guided hiking tours and other homestead projects and help protect against wildlife. And of course lots of llama wool blankets and …See More
  • Brittanie Cox What kind of chickens are those?!
  • Lori Pulliam Ashworth I raised chicken and goats and kept them separate but often wished they were together. I ah e friends that had their animals together!! I am thinking FOOD ?!? Autumn Long-Mcgie any thoughts!!??
    • Jayme Marquez Lori Pulliam Ashworth I’ve heard chicken feed can be harmful for goats
    • Lori Pulliam Ashworth Jayme Marquez that is one concern I would have but I am sure there is a way they have mastered that having chicken food in an area only they can get in?!?!
    • Jayme Marquez Lori Pulliam Ashworth that’s what I plan to do with ours….I mean they’ll sleep separately as well and I plan to just keep the chicken feeder in the chicken “room” of the barn. But the goats, chickens, ducks and our turkey will all range together on about an acre and our pig will get their own little run.
  • Brittany Rocha My chickens free range and my goats have multiple pastures and my mini horses as well. The only thing I hate is chicken poop everywhere
  • Jayme Marquez We’re building a barn for our goats, chickens and future pig. But it will be partitioned off into 3 separate rooms so they’ll each have their own space within one building.
