Sometimes the greatest progress is measured in daily victories more than any big goal achieved.
The top picture is our day 1 living off the grid. We sold our house, put 99% of our stuff in storage and parked our RV on top of our freshly purchased mountain with only the bare necessities of what we thought we needed.
We had no solar power, no cistern, no giant propane tanks, no sheds and no shipping containers.
All we had was the RV, a sun canopy to keep our stuff out of the elements, a gas generator and ourselves.
Needless to say…. when a wind storm destroyed our canopy—we knew we needed something better and fast. So we built a metal shed. And when our gas generator needed refills every 4 hours, we knew we needed a better propane generator and a bigger propane tank.
As each challenge arose—we rose to the occasion too. Every new problem, required new thinking and new strategies that brought us where we are today—over 2 years later.
Our off grid set up now consists of literally EVERYTHING we need to not only survive comfortably—but THRIVE. We can shower, take baths, do laundry, live sustainability with our compost toilet system, solar power system and greenhouse gardening. We are toasty warm in the winter with our 1,000 gallon propane tank, and have 3 power back systems to keep us secure for any emergency.
Sometimes, I get frustrated our cabin isn’t built yet. But yesterday, my husband and I were talking about our first day up here vs how we are living today and the MASSIVE amount of quantum leaps we’ve taken to get here. Not to mention the huge 200+ page book we’ve created for our custom build and the massive amount of progress we’ve made there as well.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is take PROGRESS PHOTOS. Whether it’s your day one living off-grid or your day 1 in the mermaid gang or your day 1 of your fitness journey. Pictures are powerful. Progress is powerful. And sometimes the most powerful progress isn’t the finish line—but what it took to reach it.

I remember visiting him as a child… the ranch was on the Powder River near yellowstone. If I were younger and married I’d be tempted to do what your doing now.. best of luck… looks like you have things figured out.

Goats and cows of course cats and a dog. We get our water from a spring and we have a septic system, we have back up generators, but still want to add solar. But what you’re doing is awesome.
