Captains Log: City to Gritty
Today on the land was life in frozen clouds. I’ve never been in a frozen cloud before. It was cold and mesmerizing.
We are rapidly approaching 100 days since starting this adventure. This off-grid life in an RV. Off-grid with young kids camping in winter. Off-grid at almost 8,000 ft alone on 35 acres.
It’s been incredible. It’s changed how we will forever think. It’s rewired our brains. We are different now.
You change when you know how much resources you require. You change when you learn to bathe in 5 gallons of water once a week. You change when you have to refill the generator to turn on your phone. You change when after you flush a toilet, you then haul your sewage away yourself—it doesn’t just “go away”. You change when you ration water between bathing, dishes, hand washing, cooking, drinking, washing, cleaning and more.
You learn that WATER IS A GOD. Without it, you get sick. You get dirty. You can’t cook or clean. You can’t flush away your own waste. You don’t exist without it. Every drop is precious. Every millisecond you turn off the faucet between washing dishes counts.
Change is happening. On Monday, on day 100, we will have several announcements and updates on our NEW cabin plans, NEW career shifts, NEW living updates and more. Basically EVERYTHING is changing. 100%.
But until then, I’m grateful for what I’ve been through and what the mountain gives me. I’m grateful for the cold because it tells me I’m a guest here. I’m grateful for the snow because it shows me all the wildlife that visits our property.
But most of all I’m grateful for my amazing husband that works his butt off for us. That rushes home with a shot gun at the drop of a hat to ward of potential dangers. To get our trailer winter ready and shovel snow and ice for us. That is so incredibly talented, handy and smart and always goes above and beyond to keep us safe, warm, hydrated and more in the wilderness—our wilderness—our forever home.
