Captains Log: City to Gritty

SO MUCH SNOW!!!! ?❄️⛄️ Today we are at 6” of snow and it’s still snowing!!!! And that’s on top of the 2-4 inches that never melted.

Even without RV skirting, our pipes have stayed cozy warm. No frozen pipes anywhere!! And hot water still strong too!

Our external water IBC totes have frozen though along with our water transfer hose but Todd did something to thaw them out so we could refill our RV tank and do dishes this morning! (The little things).

The road grader we hired can’t get his equipment up our road even though he originally said he COULD grade it. He was able to do our common road, so that was helpful. But we still can’t plough or get construction equipment up our road until we find someone that can fix our private road.

So, it looks like construction is DELAYED until the snow melts, we find a grader that will grade the road or we grade the road ourselves by renting construction equipment and giving it a try ??‍♀️??.

We are at the mercy of the mountain with this build. Nothing happens until the road is fixed and the weather cooperates.

We’ve also taken this extra time to rethink our cabin design and add a basement. When thinking logistics of an off-grid cabin, we realized we will need a considerable amount of square footage for the water filter for our well water and cistern system, battery bank for the solar system and general utility needs.

Soooooo we are thinking a basement floor would be the best option for all that stuff. This would put our cabin at 4 levels! ? But also would add to the functionality and beauty of blending nature with innovation and design.

Oh and for those not following me on Instagram, we got a new PROPANE generator! Our gas generator broke and was broken for almost 2.5 weeks before we decided to just get a new one.

We love having a propane generator! It can handle more power and refills itself. It ran for over 4 days on one propane tank! It’s so nice to no longer smell like gasoline all the time. In the past, we had to refill the generator every 4-8 hours. So now that it lasts 4 days, it’s a huge time saver!

If anyone is generator shopping, I highly recommend a propane based model!

P.S. Loving the twinkle lights Todd picked up to help us see at night! ? ?
